The Lowdown: going news, non-runners and tips on a star-studded day of jumping
Today's news
- BIG NAMES RETURN: Santini, a top-priced 10-1 chance for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, makes his seasonal reappearance at Sandown this afternoon. Meanwhile at Navan, A Plus Tard and Duc Des Genievres clash in Fortria Chase and Apple's Jade features in the Lismullen Hurdle.
- HISTORIC VICTORY: Paul Nicholls celebrated a tenth victory in the Badger Beers Silver Trophy at Wincanton following the victory of Give Me A Copper. The seven-year-old, who is part-owned by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, held off the fast-finishing Soupy Soups in second.
- FESTIVAL ASPIRATIONS: Reserve Tank was cut into a best-priced 10-1 for the JLT Novices' Chase after a smooth victory in the Rising Stars Novices' Chase, but Fusil Raffles drifted out to 14-1 (from 12s) with some bookmakers for the Champion Hurdle after a workmanlike winning return in the Elite Hurdle.
- CHAMPION CHASE: The Willie Mullins-trained Cilaos Emery was made 11-1 third favourite with Betfair Sportsbook for the Queen Mother Champion Chase after an impressive success in the Grade 3 Poplar Square Chase at Naas.
