The hot trainers, jockeys and horses to follow on day five at Royal Ascot
At the Racing Post, we know the must-have information ahead of Royal Ascot 2019. Our experts pick out the hottest trainers, in-form jockeys and flying horses ahead of day five on Saturday. . .
Charlie Appleby
Although Charlie Appleby has only had one winner at Royal Ascot this week, he's only had two horses priced 5-1 or shorter, with Blue Point winning and Cross Counter a staying-on fourth in the Gold Cup. His four runners on the fifth and final day are all set to be shorter than 5-1, with Blue Point holding clear claims in the Diamond Jubilee (4.20), while Pinatubo (2.30) and Space Blues (3.05) were fine winners at Epsom's Investec Derby meeting. Last year's Derby winner Masar (3.40) also makes his belated return from injury.
Sir Michael Stoute
The winningmost trainer at Royal Ascot has had another fine week and has several reasonable chances on the final day, most notably Mirage Dancer in the Hardwicke (3.40). He would be a typical late-improving horse for the trainer, while Diamond Jubilee hope Dream Of Dreams (4.20) beat The Tin Man at Windsor last time.
Ryan MooreAfter Frankie Dettori dominated Thursday's proceedings, Ryan Moore replied with a Friday double on Japan and Baghdad and he will no doubt have left thinking it could have been more after the disappointments of Ten Sovereigns and Hermosa. He will look to add to his five wins this week with a full book of six rides on the final day, with Lope Y Fernandez (2.30) and Max Dynamite (5.35) holding favourite's chances. He also partners Jeremy Noseda's final runner Cenotaph in the Wokingham (5.00).
Frankie DettoriThe superstar Italian jockey threatened to go through the card during his fantastic 449-1 four-timer on Thursday and added the Commonwealth Cup on Friday to his Wednesday double. He leads the challenge to be top jockey with seven winners and has a full book of rides on day five. His best chances appear to be in the Hardwicke with Lah Ti Dar (3.40) and in the Queen Alexandra with Corelli (5.35).
Blue Point
Blue Point will attempt to emulate Choisir in completing a Group 1 sprint double at the royal meeting. The five-year-old beat Battaash again to win the King's Stand Stakes for the second year in a row on Tuesday and will return to the track just a few days later in the six-furlong Diamond Jubilee (4.20). Blue Point is a four-time course winner at Ascot and few would put it past him making it five by the end of the meeting.
Max DynamiteWillie Mullins has won the Queen Alexandra Stakes twice in the last seven years with Simenon and Pique Sous and the trainer bids to repeat the trick with Max Dynamite (5.35). Partnered by Ryan Moore, the nine-year-old should have a fine chance based on last September's Doncaster Cup second.
