Teruntum Star bids for Coral Sprint encore as Kevin Ryan pulls out all the stops

Nobody is trying harder to end York's season on a high than Kevin Ryan, saddling a quarter of the 20-runner field for the track's final £100,000 race of the year.

Last year's winner Teruntum Star finished eighth in the Ayr Gold Cup, in which his stablemates Tommy Taylor, Major Jumbo and Naadirr were 15th, 20th and 25th respectively. Savalas was second in a £100,000 three-year-old race here in June.

Ryan's son Adam said: "It looks as though Teruntum Star is going to get his ground. He seems to come alive at this time of year so fingers crossed he should run well.

"Naadirr will love any juice in the ground. Major Jumbo has form over course and distance, Tommy Taylor missed the break at Ayr but ran well at Ascot and Savalas has improved hand over fist this year."

Flying down from Ayr

More than half this field ran in the Ayr Gold Cup, with Flying Pursuit doing best of them in third place.

He was first home on the stands' side and stablemates Golden Apollo (tenth) and Staxton (16th) were also on the disadvantaged side of the track.

Trainer Tim Easterby said: "All three are in good form and they should have good chances. Flying Pursuit ran a super race at Ayr and loves a bit of cut in the ground."

Conditions were desperate at Ayr and they all ran okay. Kimberella seems to like York. George Bowen has shot up the weights so we're claiming 7lb off him. Brian The Snail won his race down the middle at Ayr and could be interesting.

David O’Meara, trainer of Summerghand & Al Qahwa
Rain will be a positive for Al Qahwa. He's been running a bit lazily and finishing off well so I hope he can travel a bit better early on. Summerghand continues in good form, I'm sure he'll run his race.

The less rain the better. He's run very well this season but he's gone up a lot without winning.

Jedd O'Keeffe, trainer of Shared Equity
He's in great shape and the more rain the better for him. He won this three years ago.

John Quinn, trainer of Lord Riddiford
It's his first time over six furlongs and we feel that could help him. He was keeping on last time and three of his brothers have won over six.
