We asked some stars of the saddle, past and present, for their views on which of the big two in the Nunthorpe Stakes they would ride. here's what they had to say . . .

There really isn't much between them but I would side with Ten Sovereigns. I like the fact he's a three-year-old and he might handle the pre-race build-up better than Battaash.
William Buick

I'd ride Ten Sovereigns. Battaash's record at York is a big negative, while Ten Sovereigns was only having his second run in a sprint this season when winning the July Cup – he'll be better for that. He's dropping down to five furlongs but showed good speed at Newmarket and he should be sharper again. There are more upsides to him.
