Royal Ascot Day 3 Tips

Our experts pick their selections for each race on day three of Royal Ascot to help you find more winners.

Golden Gates Stakes Handicap - Acquitted

  • Useful form in two wins from four starts last season, particularly his narrow win in 1m novice at Newbury (heavy; form working out well); clear second to very promising winner (runs in Saturday's St James's Palace) on seasonal/handicap debut at Newcastle recently and still looks attractively weighted up 4lb here; dam's side of pedigree encouraging stamina-wise; major claims.

Wolferton Stakes - Fox Tal

  • Back from an absence with a bang last autumn, winning Doncaster conditions event (1m2f, good to firm) before excellent fourth to Magical in Champion Stakes over C&D (soft); only had six career starts so further progress isn't out of the question, particularly with his yard in such good form since the resumption; big player from a handy inside stall.

Jersey Stakes - Monarch Of Egypt

  • Ballydoyle colt who finished second to Siskin in two Group contests at the Curragh (good/soft) last summer; below form since but saw little daylight when seventh to that rival in the Irish 2,000 Guineas most recently; has strong claims on his peak RPR.

Chesham Stakes - Modern News

  • Shamardal colt who led close home at Newmarket (6f, good) 11 days ago, beating a fascinating stablemate who was the most expensive yearling sold at public auction in Europe last year; should relish this longer distance; useful prospect and commands respect.

Ascot Gold Cup - Stradivarius

  • Top-class stayer, including winning this race for the last two years; creditable reappearance third over an inadequate 1m4f in Group 1 Coronation Cup recently should have teed him up nicely for this and he faces a weaker field than when winning this in 2018 and arguably last year as well; acts on good to firm and soft ground; should be hard to beat.

Britannia Stakes Handicap - Verboten

  • Went straight from winning 7f Yarmouth novice on debut (good to firm) to a Group 1 over 1m at Newcastle where he suffered early interference; interesting that he was thought worthy of a place at that level and he was clearly in need of a return to 1m when eating up the ground late over 7f at Lingfield two weeks ago (finished alongside Grove Ferry); good claims.

Sandringham Stakes Handicap - African Dream (nap)

  • 220,000gns yearling; ran last week at Newbury (7f, good) and, penalised for winning an AW novice (7f), she very nearly conceded 7lb to a 106-rated filly who went close in Group 2 company last season; undeniably well handicapped off the same mark (16lb rise is imminent) if able to back that up seven days later; hard to resist.

Royal Ascot Day 2 Results

The second day of Royal Ascot saw Lord North land the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes for John Gosden and James Doyle as Japan failed to fire. The Royal Hunt Cup and it's Silver edition earlier on the card were won by Dark Vision and Sir Busker respectively, who finished 1-2 earlier in the season. Punters were quick to latch on to Dark Vision whose price tumbled after the success of Sir Busker in the opener. See the full race results below:

1.15 - Sir Busker 12-1 (William Knight/Oisin Murphy)

1.50 - Russian Empire 100-30 (Aidan O'Brien/Ryan Moore)
