Runners and riders will compete for one of the oldest prizes in sport this evening when 15 line up for the Ladbrokes Lanark Silver Bell at Hamilton. The original Silver Bell dates back to 1165 and is believed to be a gift given by William the Lion to the people of Lanark.

Hamilton reinstated the race in 2008 after an absence of 31 years due to the closure of Lanark racecourse and commissioned a new cup to be made, one which Mark Johnston has taken home five times.
