Recent winner Seldom closing Inn on fourth course victory

Seldom Inn will bid for a fourth win at Kelso in the first running of the Liz Adam Memorial Handicap Chase (3.15), the highlight of ITV4's three-race coverage from the track.

Seldom Inn's latest appearance at the Borders circuit comes three weeks after landing his biggest success in the Listed Premier Chase.

The nine-year-old must compete from a career-high mark after he was raised 10lb for defeating the smart Tenor Nivernais, but trainer Sandy Thomson is still expecting a bold show in this £27,000 contest. He said: "We've always thought Seldom Inn was a nice horse but we never expected him to win as he did last time and perhaps a few did not run their races that day. The fences at Kelso, which aren't the biggest, seem to suit him and we hope for another good run."

Seldom Inn takes on six rivals, including Silver Tassie, who registered his first win for Micky Hammond at Ayr last time. Hammond said: "Silver Tassie did it impressively at Ayr where he jumped well and we fully expect him to run a big race."

Alto Des Mottes got no further than the first when fancied to land the Eider Chase at Newcastle last time but has emerged from that unscathed.

Trainer Harry Hogarth said: "It was a rough start and he was unsighted when one jumped across him at the first. He's over that now, in great shape and should like the testing ground."

Shades Of Midnight and Isaacstown Lad are back for another crack at the preceding Edinburgh Gin Handicap Hurdle (2.40), in which they filled the places behind Silsol a year ago.

Also in the eight-runner contest is Seeyouatmidnight, who carries top weight on his first start over hurdles since finishing seventh in the 2015 Stayers' Hurdle.

Trainer Sandy Thomson said: "He's only running over hurdles as I didn't want to run him against Seldom Inn in the chase. He's been off for a while and this will blow the cobwebs away."

Of the others, Knockara Beau will be trying to win at the age of 14, while Nick Williams will be represented by another popular old-stager in Reve De Sivola.

Williams said: "He would have a great chance as he loves testing ground, so hopefully it doesn't dry out too much."
