Paddy Twomey has had only 19 runners this season and six of them have won – a remarkable 32 per cent strike-rate – and in La Petite Coco he has a filly of significant potential who could increase that percentage.
The daughter of Ruler Of The World was a close-up fourth to Sunday's Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Empress Josephine at Naas in March on her final start for Andrew Kinirons before joining the Twomey team.
The stable debut could hardly have gone much better at Killarney earlier this month as she burst clear early in the home straight to beat subsequent Irish 1,000 Guineas fourth Belle Image by over four lengths.
It was the performance of a filly who was very much on the up and it would come as little surprise to see Twomey's strike-rate improved further here.
Perhaps La Petite Coco's biggest danger is Eylara. She is representing Dermot Weld, who has won two of the last four runnings with Shamreen (2016) and Dabulena (2017).
The Gleneagles filly signed off last season with a decisive victory in a Leopardstown maiden and big things were obviously expected at three as she was supported into 7-4 favourite for the Group 3 Park Express Stakes at Naas on her return to action in March.
She beat only two home there, though, and finished seventh of 13 in a handicap back at that venue last time so things have not gone according to plan thus far.
That said, she boasts a mark of 92 which is identical to Lady Anner, who must give 13lb to the three-year-old.
Sh Boom cut little ice on her return to action at Gowran Park, while Starlight Dream has not been seen since November and may find this trip on the sharp side.
Eylara and La Petite Coco appear the pair with the most scope for improvement and Twomey's runner gets the vote to continue his fine start to the season.
What they say
Jessica Harrington, trainer of Lady Anner
She's in good form. Things didn't go according to plan last time, but she had some very nice runs last year and did win at Roscommon when there was plenty of cut in the ground. This looks a nice race for her and I'd like to think she has a chance.
Dermot Weld, trainer of Eylara
She's well and I just hope racing is on. I expect her to run very well if it does get the green light. My concern is obviously the ground, but she's a nice filly and she's been in good form.
Paddy Twomey, trainer of La Petite Coco
I was happy with the way she won on her stable debut at Killarney and the form has worked out well. This looked the logical next step for her. The extra distance won't do her any harm and should suit.
