Can Persian Force justify short-price favouritism in the July Stakes?
Thursday: 2.25 Newmarket
Close Brothers July Stakes (Group 2) | 6f | 2yo | ITV3/RTV
What they say
Michael Bell, trainer of Brave Nation
He was very impressive on debut and backed that up at Ascot without getting a chance to show his true colours. The step up to six furlongs should suit – he was finishing his race nicely prior to being wiped out last time – and I’m hopeful he’ll run well.
Michael O’Callaghan, trainer of Harry Time
He's a nice horse and ran very well for a long way in the Coventry. He was probably one of the last horses off the bridle, he just got a little bit tired after being a little bit too handy. We'll probably ride him a bit patient this time. He has a good chance to run into a place, he has enough ability.
Charlie Appleby, trainer of Mysterious Night
It was a nice performance at Newbury on his second start and he has strengthened up since. Dropping back to six furlongs shouldn’t be a problem and I’m expecting a big run.
Rossa Ryan, rider of Persian Force
He’s come out of Ascot in really good shape and looks to have mentally sharpened up and matured since that run. It’s a good race with Brave Nation also going there off a good run at Ascot but I’d like to think we have a live chance.
