One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Shergar Cup Saturday
One trainer
It's a big day for Newmarket trainer William Haggas who has 16 runners in action, including Awesometank in the Grade 1 Beverley D Stakes (10.53pm) at Arlington.
At Ascot he has a few serious chances on Shergar Cup day, including Big Kitten (2.15), Boerhan (3.25) and Victory Day (4.00), while he sends the classy Addeybb to the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.
The five-year-old will be suited by the easing conditions and is a hot favourite. The chief supporting race at Haydock is the Listed Dick Hern Stakes and Haggas will be represented by the unbeaten Miss O Connor, who was a wide-margin winner at Nottingham last time.
The trainer also has runners at Chelmsford, Newmarket, Redcar and Lingfield on an extremely busy day for the yard.
One jockey
Hayley Turner described the build-up to the Shergar Cup as like "waiting for Christmas" and she will looking to retain the silver saddle – the prize awarded to the leading rider at the meeting.
The betting suggests Pass The Vino (4.00) is Turner's best chance from her five rides, while Lancelot Du Lac (1.05), Eddystone Rock (1.40), Melting Dew (2.15) and Sapa Inca (3.25) are all in with a chance in the unique team event.
The Girls team – crowned team champions last year – this time comprises Turner, Jamie Kah and Nanako Fujita.
One horse
Ultra Violet is a 33-1 chance for next year's 1,000 Guineas after her emphatic debut success on the July course in June. She blasted clear of her rivals in an eight-length romp and is back in action at Newmarket in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes (3.45).
Ed Vaughan's filly faces a number of unexposed rivals in the 7f event, including Soffika, a rare first-time-out winner for Sir Michael Stoute, and Light Blush, who represents Godolphin.
Godolphin won the race five times in a row between 2009 and 2013 but have not triumphed since Ihtimal's victory.
One race
The Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (3.05) has attracted a stellar line-up and it is a race full of intrigue.
Addeybb, an impressive winner at Royal Ascot, takes on proven Group-class performers Wissahickon and Wadilsafa while smart three-year-olds Raise You and Pondus also feature in the Haydock showpiece.
Wissahickon is a fascinating runner as he bolted up in the Cambridgeshire and looked a top-notch prospect on the all-weather prior to disappointing in the Easter Classic.
