One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

One trainer

One man known for starting the season in blistering fashion is Nigel Twiston-Davies, who always has his string tuned up at this time of year.

He loves to target Cheltenham's opening meeting and saddled a treble on Saturday's card last season with Cogry and Calett Mad (2.00) and Foxtail Hill (3.10), who are all in action again.

Speculation of a squeak at the trainers' title charge last winter proved premature, but Twiston-Davies does at least look to have the weaponry to continue his fine run of form at the fixture.

One jockey

In Australia, Hugh Bowman will be hoping to prove ITV Racing presenter Matt Chapman wrong in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate when he partners wondermare Winx in a bid for a record fourth win in the Group 1 race.

The jockey, who has shown coolness under the most intense pressure, undoubtedly has the weight of a country on his shoulders as Winx mania continues to grow.

One horse

Young Rascal bounced back from a disappointing run in the Derby to land the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup Stakes at Newbury in September last time out and there is every chance the William Haggas-trained colt can turn into a Cup contender next season.

The lightly raced three-year-old spent most of the summer off after being found to be below-par after Epsom and he must have every chance of adding to his tally in the St Simon Stakes (2.20) at Newbury, where he receives 3lb from the smart Weekender.

One race

The Vertem Futurity Stakes (4.05) has regularly produced runners who have gone on to Classic success. Last year's race was a thriller between subsequent 2,000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior and four-time Group 1 hero Roaring Lion.

That's not forgetting the likes of Motivator, Authorized, Kingston Hill and Camelot who all went on to prove high-quality performers in their three-year-old campaigns.

This year's line-up includes John Gosden's exciting Turgenev, Acomb Stakes scorer Phoenix Of Spain and a three-strong Ballydoyle contingent headed by supplementary entry and favourite Magna Grecia.
