One key runner to note from each of the seven races on ITV4
A busy Saturday afternoon in Britain and Ireland is in store and the ITV4 cameras will be taking in action from Musselburgh, Sandown and Wetherby. Here are key runners worth following in the televised races.
1.50 Sandown
Betway Contenders Hurdle (Listed)
Call Me Lord thrives at Sandown and bids to make it four wins from six starts at the course.
Having won on his debut for Nicky Henderson at Sandown, the French import claimed a Grade 2 hurdle at the track last April and comes into the race in fine form after winning the International Hurdle at Cheltenham last time.
That form has been boosted by runner-up Ballyandy taking the Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock and Call Me Lord could be a big player for the Champion Hurdle if he impresses here.
2.05 Musselburgh
bet365 Scottish County Hurdle (Handicap)
Dual-purpose performer Sir Chauvelin is a force to be reckoned with at Musselburgh, with all four of his hurdles victories coming at the track.
Those wins were all achieved over Saturday's 1m7½f distance, with the most recent coming on New Year's Day.
Although up 5lb for that victory, the Jim Goldie-trained eight-year-old could have more to offer.
2.25 Sandown
Betway Scilly Isles Novices' Chase (Grade 1)
Laurina is the headline name in this Grade 1 and it is interesting that Willie Mullins has decided to send the mare to Britain on the weekend of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown.
But she may not have things all her own way and Itchy Feet could present a stern challenge. Trainer Olly Murphy has always held the six-year-old in high regard and last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle third looked a natural over fences when dotting up at Leicester on his chase debut.
This race represents a big step up in class but Itchy Feet has a lot of potential.
2.45 Wetherby
William Hill Towton Novices' Chase (Grade 2)
Previous winners of this race have emerged as Grand National contenders and Dominateur was mentioned as a potential type for the Welsh National last time out by jockey Richie McLernon.
The Chepstow marathon could be a long-distance goal, with the seven-year-old having bags of stamina and the ability to handle testing ground.
Trained by Oliver Sherwood, Dominateur has a progressive profile and could take another step forward on his first run in Graded company.
3.00 Sandown
Betway Heroes Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
Philip Hobbs has his team in great form and has won this race twice in the past six runnings, so his representative Big Shark makes plenty of appeal.
The six-year-old lost his unbeaten record over hurdles last time at Haydock, but that form is already starting to work out with the third, Silva Eclipse, successful on his next run.
Unexposed with only three starts under rules, Big Shark could well prove better than a mark of 137.
3.15 Musselburgh
bet365 Edinburgh National Handicap Chase
Last weekend was a good one for trainer Phil Kirby with Lady Buttons winning at Doncaster and Little Bruce could make it another Saturday to remember for the yard.
The eight-year-old has already shown staying power when winning the North Yorkshire Grand National at Catterick last time out, as well as the Cambridgeshire National at Huntingdon last March.
Those wins came over 3m6f, so Little Bruce needs to stay another three furlongs on Saturday, but Kirby said after the Catterick victory that the Edinburgh National had been the plan for a while.
3.35 Sandown
Betway Masters Handicap Chase
The familiar light blue silks of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing are more readily associated with the Flat, but they could be sighted at Aintree later this season in the Grand National with Crievehill.
The staying chaser was well beaten at Ascot in December but aims to get back on track after earlier wins at Wetherby and Haydock.
With top weight of 11st 12lb, Crievehill faces a tough task but he could show why he is under consideration for the Grand National.
