One key runner for each of ITV’s seven races on the final day of Royal Ascot
Campanelle
1.15 Royal Ascot
Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2), 5f
Wesley Ward has won this two-year-old event three times, most recently with the dynamic duo of Acapulco and Lady Aurelia in 2015 and 2016 respectively, and bids for another success with Campanelle.
Frankie Dettori’s mount produced a professional display on debut at Gulfstream Park 20 days ago and is drawn well to get a clear lead in stall one.
Admiral Nelson
1.50 Royal Ascot
Coventry Stakes (Group 2), 6f
Aidan O’Brien is the winningmost trainer of this race and aims for a tenth triumph with favourite Admiral Nelson.
He was an impressive winner at the Curragh on the Irish 2,000 Guineas card, powering home to defeat a well-fancied stablemate. The imposing colt is drawn in stall ten and should relish the step up to six furlongs.
Alpine Star
2.25 Royal Ascot
Coronation Stakes (Group 1), 1m
Jessica Harrington and the Niarchos family landed this top-level prize with Alpha Centauri two years ago and hope to repeat the feat with Alpine Star.
She produced a career-best effort on her final start at two when winning the Group 2 Debutante Stakes at the Curragh, in which Qipco 1,000 Guineas winner Love finished fifth.
Pinatubo
3.00 Royal Ascot
St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1), 1m
Charlie Appleby’s stable star suffered his first defeat in the 2,000 Guineas but bids to bounce back in the second of three Group 1 races on the final day.
William Buick’s mount has a second chance to prove his stamina over this trip, although rain-softened ground will make it a stern test, as will Guineas runner-up Wichita and the unbeaten Palace Pier.
Sceptical
3.35 Royal Ascot
Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Group 1), 6f
The £2,800 purchase in August bids for a £148,000 first prize after four wins in five starts for Denis Hogan.
Sceptical, owned by James McAuley, struck at Listed level at Naas earlier this month and is partnered by Dettori.
This is a big step up in grade but he has earned his chance and would be a fairytale winner for connections.
Tinto
4.10 Royal Ascot
Wokingham Stakes, 6f
A big opportunity for 5lb claimer Marco Ghiani who is 2-2 on this course-and-distance winner trained by Amanda Perrett.
Tinto was a 40-1 winner on his reappearance at Newmarket and is versatile regarding underfoot conditions.
The Grand Visir
4.40 Royal Ascot
Queen Alexandra Stakes, 2m5½f
Last year’s Ascot Stakes scorer contests the final race of the meeting that appears weaker than previous years with Irish-trained runners unable to compete due to restrictions on international runners outside Pattern company.
