One key runner for each of ITV4's eight races from Newbury and York
Moonlight Spirit
1.55 York
John Smith's Silver Cup (Group 3), 1m6f
This four-year-old showed more than enough at the end of last season to put a line through an under-par outing in the Ascot Gold Cup last month. He won a Group 3 at Longchamp in September before only narrowly missing out on Group 2 honours over the same course and distance next time. He could be dangerous dropping in class here.
2.15 Newbury
Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed), 6f
Few horses have made as large an impression on debut this season as Mighty Gurkha, who demolished a maiden field at Lingfield in imperious style last month. Sent off 6-1 for the Windsor Castle next time, she ran with credit to finish fifth behind Tactical and is sure to come on for the experience.
Caradoc
2.30 York
John Smith's Cup Handicap Stakes (Heritage Handicap), 1m2½f
A strong traveller who won on three occassions last season, Caradoc made an encouraging return to action at Epsom on Derby day when overcoming a wide draw to finish a staying-on sixth. With race fitness now on his side and James Doyle in the saddle, he will surely to be in the mix here.
Tonyx
2.50 Newbury
British EBF/bet365 Premier Fillies' Handicap, 1m
This four-year-old only has two runs to his name but has advertised his talent in no uncertain terms in each. Last season he followed an impressive eight-length debut success with a cosy victory in a novice at Newcastle and now turns to handicapping on his first start this campaign. It will be fascinating to see whether an opening mark of 88 under or over-estimates his talents.
El Astronaute
3.05 York
John Smith's City Walls Stakes (Listed), 5f
A performer of real consistency for trainer John Quinn since 2015, El Astronaute looked in top shape when winning a Listed race at Doncaster last month. He returns to action over York's blistering five furlongs and could be difficult to peg back if getting the early lead he so often does.
La Lune
3.25 Newbury
Aphrodite Fillies' Stakes (Listed), 1m4f
In an open contest it may pay to look at La Lune who remains firmly unexposed despite already being a four-year-old. She broke her maiden in May last year and was not seen again until running the useful Antonia De Vega very close at Pontefract last month on only her third career start.
Make My Day
3.40 York
William Hill Extra Places Every Day Handicap, 1m4f
This four-year-old showed clear talent when with John Gosden last season in spite of being something of a handful. A gelding operation and switch Ralph Beckett's yard may just have settled him and an opening mark of 84 could underestimate his talent should he maintain the upward trajectory of last season.
Judicial
4.00 Newbury
Hackwood Stakes (Group 3), 6f
A talented sprinter who very rarely does not give his running and has looked as good as ever this season, placing at Group 3 level on his reappareance before winning at Newcastle in decsive fashion next time. He faces a talented bunch of rivals here but looks as well placed as any to add a 16th career success.
