Oli Bell and Joe Tizzard join Keith Melrose on our panel
Pietro Innocenzi and Paul Binfield also give their thoughts
Who’s your main fancy from the ITV4 Cheltenham action?
Oli Bell, ITV Racing presenter Saint Calvados who runs in the Randox Health Handicap Chase (3.10) is a talented horse who has had a wind op since we last saw him in the Champion Chase behind Altior. He’s run twice at Cheltenham and been well beaten on both occasions but there were excuses on both days. I think he can make a big statement in handicap company.
Paul Binfield, Paddy Power Harry Whittington’s Saint Calvados is extremely interesting returned to handicap company in the 3.10 having had a wind operation during the summer. Connections will have been disappointed he didn’t build on his winning return at Naas last year but, saying that, third places behind Altior and Min don’t read too badly and he should be highly competitive here.
Pietro Innocenzi, tipster Gunfleet (3.45) could be worth another chance after an excusable defeat on his recent return at Stratford. Well backed, he raced wide for most of the contest, doing well to be beaten just over six lengths in fourth. The step back up to 3m should suit, he has won on soft ground and his current mark isn’t beyond him.
