O'Brien bids for 19th Group 1 of blooming marvellous season
Tom Kerr on a richly varied day - with one man invariably likely to be centre stage
Six days on from his historic 1-2-3 in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Aidan O'Brien looks to continue his march to a world record tally of top-tier races in the Dubai Fillies' Mile on day one of Newmarket's Future Champions meeting.
In a career of mind-boggling achievements none perhaps has been so extraordinary as O'Brien's saddling the first three home in the world's most prestigious turf race, but toppling Bobby Frankel's record of 25 Grade 1 victories in a year would arguably top even that.
O'Brien currently boasts 19 top-flight 1 wins in 2016 (including one Grade 1 over jumps, although racing historians will surely debate the legitimacy of that in the context of Frankel's score) and from his vast garden of juvenile stars has plucked Rhododendron and Hydrangea to lead the line in today's Fillies' Mile.
