Frankie Dettori and A'Ali team up again to attempt more heroics in Papin

The British have dominated the Prix Robert Papin in recent years, winning the last five editions, and the four-strong team this time is headed by Norfolk Stakes winner A'Ali, the horse who got the ball rolling for Frankie Dettori's fantastic four-timer at Royal Ascot on Gold Cup day.

The Simon Crisford-trained colt stepped up on his debut second in a novice at Ripon when accounting for Ventura Rebel and 12 others over 5f at Royal Ascot when he was drawn on the right side.

The son of Society Rock has since worked nicely on the watered gallop in Newmarket and should enjoy this extra half-furlong. Dettori, who won this contest on Gutaifan in 2015 and Signora Cabello 12 months ago, again takes the ride.

Crisford said: "We've been very happy with A'Ali since Royal Ascot and he's done everything right at home in the build-up to this race which is a nice fit for his programme."

Karl Burke, who won in 2017 with Unfortunately, is responsible for two of the ten-strong field. He hopes the switch from Maisons-Laffitte to Deauville will help his pair Rayong and Classy Moon, who both prefer cut in the ground.

Burke said: "I'm hoping the move to Deauville will be a positive as they put a lot of water on. There was rain around last night and the ground should be on the easy side, which will suit them. The going is certainly the key to Rayong and I hope he can run a big race. He's turning out a bit quicker than ideal and Simon Crisford's horse will be hard to beat, but I hope he has a good chance of a place."

Of Classy Moon, Burke added: "This wasn't the plan for Classy Moon but the race has broken up, he's come out of his run at Newmarket well and dropping back to five and a half furlongs on a level track on easier ground will suit him."

Richard Fahey completes the British presence and fields Istanbul, who is taking a massive step up in class after winning a Beverley maiden.

The home team is headed by Jolie, trained by Andrea Marcialis, who was second in a Group 3 at Chantilly last time when the reopposing Fan Club Rules was fourth.
