New chapter for Champ as he completes unique treble of chase and hurdle races
The tale of a staying chaser reinvented as a staying hurdler is not a new one.
What the legendary Big Buck's achieved after depositing Sam Thomas in the 2008 Hennessy is probably the most famous example, while War Of Attrition won a couple of Grade 2 hurdles four years after his Cheltenham Gold Cup triumph.
Connections of Champ, given his name in honour of Sir Anthony McCoy, might have been anticipating a Gold Cup victory from the nine-year-old, who has the pedigree for it being out of China Sky, a half-sister to three-time festival hero Best Mate.
