Freshly unveiled as number one rider in Britain to powerful owner Alan Potts, Bryan Cooper has his first rides in the colours at Ludlow today.

Cooper gets a first feel for the track on Exxaro in the 3m handicap chase (3.00), before partnering his Colin Tizzard-trained stablemate Mick Thonic in the 2m limited handicap chase for novices (4.00).

Jumping fans also have a six-race card at Towcester to enjoy, where champion jockey Richard Johnson has four live chances.

Ryan Moore is in action at Nottingham, one of three Flat meetings on the day along with Gowran Park and the evening card at Kempton.

Final thought

A runner for Willie Mullins on the Flat is nothing to write home about but his choice of jockey for Iolani certainly catches the eye in the 1m6f handicap at Gowran Park (5.30).

Step forward Paul Townend, a regular on the Mullins team sheet over jumps, he gets the call up for just one ride on the Flat for his boss at the jockey's local track.

Beaten over hurdles at this course last month, Iolani's only other start on the Flat was also at Gowran and ended in success, and it does not take much imagination to predict the same outcome today.
