Something happened in west Sussex on Thursday morning which made people stop whatever they were doing and gaze out of the window in sheer wonder and disbelief.
For the first time in four months it rained heavily for a prolonged spell, changing the going at Goodwood to soft.
However, the mercury is set to soar again as dry, hot conditions return for an August bank holiday weekend which kicks off with eight races televised on ITV, highlighted by the Group 2 William Hill Celebration Mile (3.35).
