York officials were last night hoping the final day of the Ebor meeting will be staged on good ground, but rain expected to fall today could yet trigger a further easing of conditions.

A description of good to firm was yesterday changed to good following rain that fell steadily on and off from just before noon and persuaded connections of Mecca's Angel to run the magical mare, who became a dual winner of the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

By 5pm a total of 3mm had been measured.
