Measure Of Magic and Loch Lein the two to concentrate on in sizzling sprint
5.40 Cork
Goffs Irish EBF Polonia Stakes (Listed) | 5½f | 3yo fillies | RTV
Measure Of Magic pulled a rabbit out of the hat when getting up late to land the Listed Commitrted Stakes at Navan 12 days ago and Johnny Murtagh appears to have found an ideal opportunity for the speedy daughter of Kodi Bear to follow up that success.
The way she hit the line at Navan suggests she could be even better at three than she was at two. And she wasn't half bad at two.
Although beaten on her debut at Naas, Measure Of Magic went on to win her next two starts and earned herself a trip to Doncaster for the Flying Childers in September.
She was not disgraced in that Group 2, leading for much of the way before finishing third behind Ubettabelieveit and Sacred. She posted an RPR of 101 there and bettered that at Navan last time with an RPR of 105. A repeat of that should be good enough here.
There are, however, a number of unknown quantities in here. The Joseph O'Brien-trained pair – Camdeboo and Russian River – were last seen over 7f and a mile, so this represents a much sharper test than they are used to.
Loch Lein is perhaps the most interesting of all. She was only 11-2 to win the 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown last month but did too much too early over 7f there. She chased home St Mark's Basilica in a Curragh maiden last August and boasts an impressive six-length verdict over Queens Carriage, who renews rivalry here, at Cork last September.
She appears to be all about speed and it would come as no surprise to see her give Measure Of Magic most to think about, especially as stable jockey Shane Foley has picked her over Dickiedooda, who ran well at Bath three weeks ago.
Champion jockey Colin Keane is an eyecatching booking for the Willie McCreery-trained Claonadh, but she has more than five lengths to find with Measure Of Magic from their meeting at Navan.
Measure Of Magic and Loch Lein look the two to concentrate on and the last-named might prove to be the value option.

What they say
Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Camdeboo and Russian River
Camdeboo won nicely at Cork last time and will like the ground. She showed plenty of pace there, but there are obvious question marks about this drop in trip. It would be great if she could get a bit of black type. Russian River is also stepping down in trip. She's bred to be quick and she looks quick. She's been training well and it'll be interesting to see how she handles the drop in distance. If she can cope with it, it will open up plenty of options for her.
Jessica Harrington, trainer of Dickiedooda and Loch Lein
Loch Lein is coming back to sprinting, something she looked very good at last season when she won her maiden. She seems to be in very good form at home and I've been very happy with her. Dickiedooda got a bit unbalanced coming down the straight at Bath, but she ran on well and I thought she ran a lovely race there.
