Denis Hogan is set for a big day with Sceptical in the Diamond Jubilee at Ascot and another of the trainer’s rapidly improving sprinters, Make A Challenge, returns in this Listed prize, which is named after one of the best Irish sprinters.

The 5f contest may have attracted only eight runners but there is a decent spread of quality on show, headed by Make A Challenge, who is the top-rated contender and will be suited by the rain.

It didn't always look likely that Hogan's five-year-old would reach a mark of 112. After winning off an opening mark of just 68 last term, Make A Challenge made sustained progress to win a further five races and signed off with a respectable fifth in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot. He sets a clear standard on his return.

Johnny Murtagh couldn’t have his horses in better form and Urban Beat, a course-and-distance winner, will also be suited by the ground, while Beckford, a Group 2 winner at two for Gordon Elliott, has his first run for Ger Lyons.

What they say

Denis Hogan, trainer of Make A Challenge
He's got lucky with the weather this week. The ground is on the easy side and it could get slower. It looks like a lovely start for him. We'll have a look at the Rockingham and the Greenlands Stakes and we'll see how he comes out of this.

Jessica Harrington, trainer of Flash Gordon
He probably didn't let himself down on the ground at the Curragh the other day. He should love the ground and, while the trip is a bit short, he has to go somewhere. It's his first time in blinkers.

Johnny Murtagh, trainer of Urban Beat
He'll appreciate the rain that came. We didn't think we'd get him out this early but he's ready to run and hopefully he'll come on from it.

Michael Grassick, trainer of Verhoyen
He’s not the easiest to get fit and I think he might take the run. We’d be hoping he runs well and, if he does, we’ll have a look at the seven-furlong handicap at the Curragh next weekend.
