Look to Pontefract for the one race you don't want to miss on Monday
7.35 Pontefract
Pontefract Squash & Leisure Club Handicap | 1m4f | 4yo+ | RTV
Why is it interesting?
The £12,318 on offer to the winner of this 0-105 handicap has attracted a competitive field, including last year's winner My Reward and Isidor Bonheur Yes, who showed promise in France and makes his British debut for David O'Meara.
The five-year-old son of Sageburg ran well in five starts for Didier Guillemin, including when second in a Listed race at Cagnes-Sur-Mer on his final start as a three-year-old, but has endured an interrupted programme since and made only one start in 646 days.
The Hughie Morrison-trained Not So Sleepy enjoyed a profitable three-race hurdle campaign earlier this year, and returned to Flat action when seventh behind Soto Sizzler over a mile and a half at Epsom on Derby day.
Caliburn was an encouraging fifth in a competitive Jorvik handicap on his first start for Andrew Balding, while Tim Easterby will be looking to My Reward to halt a recent run that has seen his form dip in seven starts since that success.
Everything For You was in excellent form in some valuable handicaps at the end of last season and has maintained his consistent profile in three starts since April, but the Kevin Ryan-trained five-year-old will need to reverse form with Claire Underwood, who got the better of him at Musselburgh last month.
What do the stats say?
My Reward's course-and-distance success is of clear interest, although form figures since of 0500008 temper expectations of a repeat.
The in-form Danny Tudhope, who partners Isidor Bonheur Yes, has been operating at an impressive 24 per cent strike-rate over the past two weeks, while James Fanshawe's 27 per cent strike-rate over the same period is a positive for the four-year-old Sleeping Lion.
Silvestre de Sousa has won 27 of his 121 starts at Pontefract in the last five seasons and will be tasked with guiding the Andrew Balding-trained Caliburn to victory.
What do the trainers say?
David O'Meara, trainer of Isidor Bonheur Yes
He has got some good form in France but has not run for a while so this is very much a learning curve for us. We got him last July and when you pick up some of these French horses at the sales they are often better if you give them a bit of time and leave them until the following season. He has got form on soft ground in France so he should be fine if it rains.
Kevin Ryan, trainer of Everything For You
He's been in good form so far this season and we've all been really happy with him. He's won on soft ground so should handle the surface and we're looking forward to running him.
Andrew Balding, trainer of Caliburn
I was delighted with his run at York. It was a really encouraging performance on his first run back and this looks the right sort of race as a next step. He's remained in good form but the ground is still something of an unknown. He clearly handled fast ground but we're not sure about soft yet.
What do our tipsters say?
The lightly raced four-year-old Caliburn was an encouraging fifth in a hot York handicap on last month's stable/seasonal debut and can build on that here.
