Can younger brigade buck the trend?

No three-year-old has won this valuable handicap since Taraza scored for John Oxx in 2001 and three of the age group – Il Paradiso, Camphor and King's Vow – will be trying to bridge that gap.

All three go into the race with solid recent form. Il Paradiso bolted in by 12 lengths at the Curragh on his most recent start, while Camphor was an easy winner of the Ulster Oaks at Down Royal last month and King's Vow was beaten in a photo-finish to the Ulster Derby.

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Il Paradiso, last won the race with Theatreworld 20 years ago and he reports Il Paradiso to be in good shape.

He said: "He won very well at the Curragh and came out of the race well. He's dropping back half a mile but we don't expect that will be a problem."

Jessica Harrington said of Camphor: "She showed a good turn of foot when winning well at Down Royal and Shane [Foley] thought she'd have no problem going a mile a half."

Il Paradiso and Camphor have gone up 14lb for their wins last time while King's Vow has been raised 4lb for his Down Royal defeat.

More Mullins or Martin magic?

Between them Willie Mullins and Tony Martin have won the last five runnings of this event and the pair are responsible for three of the line-up.

Mullins, successful with Clondaw Warrior (2015), Whiskey Sour (2017) and Nessun Dorma, a 14-1 winner a year ago, saddles Mr Adjudicator and Legal Spin, both of whom ran in the amateur riders' handicap on Monday when Mr Adjudicator, who started favourite, finished fourth with Legal Spin down the field.

"Both horses met trouble in running on Monday and Mr Adjudicator was probably unlucky not to have gone much closer. They're dropping back in trip but that shouldn't be an issue for either of them," said Mullins.

Martin has entered Tudor City, who captured the Galway Hurdle on Thursday and could bid to emulate the yard's 2016 winner Golden Spear.

Can McCullagh turn back the clock?

Niall McCullagh, who rides the Mick Halford-trained Miss Snossyboots, first won this race on Wesbest, trained by his father, Michael, 25 years ago.

He also won the event on Buddy Marvel for the late John McLoughlin in 1997 and on the Willie Mullins-trained Marigold in 2002.

Halford said: "She's had a good break since her last run and is in good form. She's at the right end of the weights and the trip and track should suit."

What they say

Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Arthurian Flame and King's Vow
Both of them are in good form but they have high draws to overcome. We're hoping they go well. King's Vow ran very well when going close in the Ulster Derby last time.

John Murphy, trainer of War Diary
He's drawn a bit wide but he's in super form and we've got a good rider [Robbie Colgan]. It looks very competitive but we're looking forward to a big run.

Dermot Weld, trainer of Mujid
We decided to step him up in trip as he was staying on towards the finish of his previous races. It's a very valuable prize and a competitive handicap, but he's entitled to take his chance.
