Can Archer's Dream make it a fantastic four for Fanshawe?

Archer's Dream bids to make it four wins from four for James Fanshawe in the William Hill Summer Stakes at York.

The three-year-old earned black type last time when dead-heating for first in the Listed Cathedral Stakes, having been joined on the line by Snazzy Jazzy.

Having only made her debut in April, the daughter of Dream Ahead again steps up in class to Group 3 company and Fanshawe believes this is a testament to the filly’s quick progression.

"She has done nothing but progress all season," said Fanshawe. "We’re trying to take it step by step, and you’re only going to learn on the racecourse how good she really is because at home she never actually shows you a great deal. She’s pretty relaxed about things."

With entries for the Coolmore Nunthorpe and 32Red Sprint Cup the sky could be the limit for Archer’s Dream, but Fanshawe noted patience could be key for George Wood's mount to maintain her perfect record.

He added: "At Salisbury she was in front a long time up the hill. Hopefully at York she can take her time a bit more."

Can Blue cast a shadow over old rival?

Shades Of Blue finished third to Archer’s Dream on her rival’s debut at Doncaster, but now bids to turn the tables after winning the Listed Prix Hampton by a short-head at Maisons-Laffitte last month.

The Clive Cox-trained filly has progressed nicely this season, also finishing just behind Garrus in the Westow Stakes here in May, and her trainer is hopeful she can take another step forward on the expected quick ground.

He said: "She won her last start in France at Listed level and she’s come back well from there. I’m pleased to hear that so far the rain has stayed away at York as she’s more at home on a quicker surface."

The three-year-old steps up to six furlongs having run over five on her last two starts, but Cox believes the trip should suit.

He added: "She ran over six furlongs at the beginning of the year when she was a bit rusty, but the form of that seasonal return, which was won by Archer's Dream, is working out well. I’m very pleased she took a step forward from that seasonal debut, and at this stage I’m very keen to explore going back to six furlongs."

Can Perfection build on Wokingham seventh?

Perfection may have finished seventh in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot but that does not necessarily tell the whole story.

The four-year-old ran into all sorts of problems and was denied a clear run in the closing stages but still managed to stay on well and finished just three and a quarter lengths behind Darley July Cup hope Cape Byron.

"She ran a lovely race in the Wokingham and met a bit of traffic,” said trainer David O’Meara. "She might have been a bit closer were it not for that, and she goes to York in good form."

Perfection narrowly missed out on a winning start to the season when beaten a head in the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes and bids to make amends in her return to Group 3 action under David Nolan.

We’re hoping for no rain and I think we might be in luck. Fille De Reve is hunting for some black type. She ran terribly on her seasonal debut but her bloods weren’t right after that race and is now very well and back on track, so we’re hoping for a big run. Royal Intervention is very talented and ran well in the Commonwealth Cup, but unfortunately got taken on for the lead which ultimately cost her. She ran great at Haydock and is coming down in grade to hopefully get her head back in front.

It’s a tough and very competitive race with lots of nice runners but she was very progressive last year and ran well enough in the Wokingham and a Listed race at Windsor, so a repeat of those efforts should see her in the mix.

She’s in good form. She’s been a bit unfortunate in her runs but is very consistent and we’re very happy with the way she’s training at the moment. She loves fast ground and I think she’ll run well.

Roger Varian, trainer of Queen Of Desire and Impulsion
Queen Of Desire deserves to run in a Group 3. She ran well at Ayr last time and deserves a try back over six. The six furlongs on fast ground should be within her grasp and we’re hopeful of a good run. Impulsion is a filly with plenty of talent and ran a good race last time at Carlisle. David Egan rode her that day and thought she’d be worth a try back at six furlongs. She’s working well, looks well and we look forward to running her.
