Johnston looking for Baileys to show the way in Listed test

France Galop’s decision to move the Listed Prix Roland de Chambure back by eight days in the calendar from its normal July 14 slot has afforded Mark Johnston the opportunity to chase some early black type for Baileys Showgirl.

The French-bred daughter of Sepoy gave away all realistic chance when rearing up at the start on debut but made no mistake second time up with a smooth three-length success at Hamilton.

“This is a big jump up to Listed class but that applies to several of them in the race so we have to hope she is up to this,” said Johnston, who has booked Ioritz Mendizabal for the ride. “She was bought at Arqana and we have always had one eye on France.”
