Varian v Moon does not quite have the same ring to it as David v Goliath, but Jersey-based James Moon is hoping Goodwood can provide the setting for a giant-killing on Wednesday when his stable star Black Night takes on rivals from some of Britain's powerhouse yards.

Formerly owned by Qatar Racing, Black Night will become Moon's first runner in Britain when he lines up in the Listed Crimbourne Stud Foundation Stakes (3.45) against representatives from the stables of Richard Hannon, Saeed Bin Suroor, Andrew Balding and Mick Channon, not to mention Roger Varian's likely favourite Mount Logan.

Based on the north-eastern edge of Jersey in St Martin, Moon also runs Engaging Smile in the 6f handicap (4.55) on the card.
