It's not High Definition but Lingfield trials could still unearth an Epsom star

High Definition is out yet there is still plenty on offer – not the plea of a poorly stocked TV salesman but the scenario at Lingfield, which has been unearthing Classic winners for nearly 90 years.

Ever since April The Fifth won the first running of the Derby Trial ahead of his Epsom triumph in 1932, this has been an excellent practice ground for the real thing, a sweeping, undulating, left-handed test over most of the Classic trip of a mile and a half.

Aidan O'Brien knows a thing or several about training Derby winners and his Anthony Van Dyck scored here in 2019 before going on to give him the seventh of his record eight victories in the big race itself three weeks later.
