Ballyoptic has an unbeaten record to defend but he will have to beat the joint-favourite for the Hennessy Gold Cup Native River in a competitive renewal of the West Yorkshire Hurdle.

He has recorded four victories in a row since joining Nigel Twiston-Davies and has the benefit of a recent run after gamely landing the Silver Trophy at Chepstow over a trip short of his best.
