There will be plenty of trends followers who label this race simple. Just follow the form of the Paddy Power Gold Cup, run on the Old course last month, and you won’t go far wrong.

However, that seems a rather lazy way of looking at things. Five of the last ten winners of the Racing Post Gold Cup competed in the Paddy Power a month earlier, but that also means five didn’t and following the form of the November race blind has hardly returned a windfall.
