The Track

A quick glance at the times of Golden Horn's Arc victory at Longchamp in 2015 and Found's the following year at Chantilly shows that the race's traditional home is a greater test of stamina than its temporary replacement.

It is nearly thirty years since an Arc winner was not already proven over a mile and a half – Saumarez in 1990 – so you want a horse with top-class form at the trip.

With a stiff climb up the back and halfway around the bend before the runners turn downhill into the false straight, balance is also a crucial factor and, even though it is run the other way around, it is not surprising that Epsom winners have performed well in the Arc down the years.
