Iconic Sky out to make headlines for right reasons after Fakenham fiasco
Iconic Sky, on whom jockey Maxime Tissier rode a finish a circuit too early at Fakenham last time, reappears in the 2m4½f mares' handicap hurdle (3.00) at Market Rasen on Sunday.
The Lucy Wadham-trained grey earned a possibly unique in-running comment of "extraordinary effort and most unlucky" from the Racing Post's Iain McKenzie after Tissier realised his mistake and continued on the mare, who went on to finish an unlikely third.
Tissier, who claims 7lb, received a 14-day ban for the mistake, which starts this weekend, so Jack Sherwood has been called up to replace him.
Wadham said: "It was just a mistake at Fakenham when Maxime just lost his head. He had a plan to kick when he did, but it was a circuit too early unfortunately.
"At the time I wished he'd pulled Iconic Sky up, but she showed her determination to go on and finish third. Hopefully this race won't come too soon after those exertions."
On the likelihood of similar events happening again at Fakenham, Wadham added: "I'm sure it will happen again there, but there's not a lot that can be done – it's the jockey's responsibility at the end of the day.
"Some people have suggested having a bell for the final circuit, like they do in athletics, but that would just shift the responsibility on to someone else to do the counting."
Iconic Sky faces six rivals, notably the hat-trick-seeking Sweet Holly.
