It should be easy to beat your grandad in the sporting arena, shouldn't it? Age gets to us all in the end.

But Mick Easterby is not your typical 80-something and his granddaughter Jacqueline Coward knows she will have to go some when the pair clash head-on as trainers for the first time at Thirsk on Saturday.

The first-season trainer is set to face-off against her 85-year-old grandfather in the Hambleton Cup Handicap (5.00) at Thirsk – a race Easterby won in 2005 with Sporting Gesture.
