Hughie Morrison: trainer with a Classic pedigree on his hopes for Telecaster
In some ways it comes as a surprise to learn that Telecaster will become just a second runner in the Investec Derby for Hughie Morrison, who has earned a reputation for nurturing horses with a staying pedigree for owner/breeders who have that old-fashioned virtue of patience.
Pisco Sour broke the ice in the race for the master of Summerdown when a distant ninth to Pour Moi in the 2011 Derby and a year later Shirocco Star almost catapulted Morrison into the Classic-winning league when just failing to reel in Was for Oaks glory.
In a neat piece of genetic continuity, Shirocco Star's son Telecaster has now brought Morrison and the Meon Valley Stud team that bred both horses to the brink of Derby favouritism after his authoritative display in York's Dante Stakes.
