Hong Kong Mile mission for Romanised hinges on good Dundalk display

A potential tilt at the Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin next month hinges on a solid performance in this race by Romanised, according to the dual Group 1 winner’s trainer, Ken Condon.

Romanised will be tackling the all-weather surface for the first time, as will his main market rival Saltonstall, but Condon holds no fears about the surface.

Reported to be working well at home, Romanised must give weight to everything but is the clear class angle in the race.

Saltonstall has gone from strength to strength on the turf and comes into this race chasing his third win on the trot but will need to put up a career-best to claim the scalp of Romanised.

If there is a potential danger, Rebel Tale could be the one. A horse of whom Andy Slattery has always spoken highly, Rebel Tale comes into this after an absence but is very interesting on some of his two-year-old form.

However, although this will be billed as a prep race for Romanised, he should have too much class for the opposition and a solid display can be expected.

Romanised is in very good form and we have freshened him up since his last run in the Prix du Moulin. He needs to give a good account to justify going for the Hong Kong Mile. That has been the target but we weren't going to go there off the back of his last run, so he needs to run well here. These Days will jump out and make it an evenly run race.

He looks up against it taking on Romanised but nothing ventured nothing gained. He has never run at Dundalk but we gave him a piece of work up there recently and he loved the place. He's in good old form, so we said we'd let him take his chance, but he'll get a break after this.

Andy Slattery, trainer of Rebel Tale
He had a bit of a setback after his run at the Curragh, which is why he had some time off, but he's in good form and is ready to start back. I'm happy with his work. I think he's up to this level. Dubai is an option and there is also that Good Friday meeting at Lingfield. We'll get this out of the way first.
