Hollywood stardust on show at Sandown as filly represents Seabiscuit producer
On Tuesday evening a set of colours that have enjoyed great success in America will be in action at Sandown.
Film producer Gary Barber is synonymous with Hollywood, having been chief executive officer of film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 2010-18, while he is also the co-founder of production company Spyglass Entertainment.
Barber has been the executive producer of more than 50 films, including Seabiscuit, Memoirs Of A Geisha and Invictus.
Alongside his extremely successful career within the film industry, Barber has also enjoyed a host of big-race wins as an owner in the US.
Last year, War Of Will won the middle leg of American racing's Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes. The Mark Casse-trained colt delivered Barber another Grade 1 earlier this month in the Maker's Mark Mile Stakes at Keeneland.
Barber already has some interests in British racing via Bright Devil and Spanish Mission, trained by Andrew Balding and David Simcock respectively, with those horses carrying the colours of Team Valor.
But Barber's own silks will be worn by Pat Dobbs aboard Feathers, who runs for Richard Hannon in the Listed Star Stakes (7.15) at Sandown on Tuesday evening.
Barber bought into Feathers following her debut victory at Goodwood, and Hannon said: "She's got plenty of speed and ability and will hopefully run very well."
Given her powerful new transatlantic interest, the chances of Feathers making a trip stateside look to have increased, with the Breeders' Cup a potential long-range target this season.
Barber enjoyed a winner at the meeting last year with Belvoir Bay in the Turf Sprint, and when asked if Feathers could head to Keeneland for this year's meeting, Hannon added: "If she's good enough it's something we can all look at."
