Hills hoping for another Carnarvon win with Fleeting Prince

Charlie Hills celebrated success in the Listed Carnarvon Stakes (2.25) last year when Khaadem snatched victory from Oxted, and now bids to win the race again with the progressive Fleeting Prince.

The 6f contest is normally run at Newbury but this year takes place at Windsor, which plays to the son of No Nay Never's strengths as a course-and-distance winner.

Fleeting Prince struggled to build on that initial success last term, finding Group and conditions races too hot to handle, but he showed signs of returning to form when fourth in the Pavilion Stakes at Newcastle.

Hills said: "We were really pleased with that run and this race looks a good enough spot for him. We wouldn't want too much rain though."

In opposition is the Kevin Ryan-trained Repartee, who finished third to Threat in last year's Gimcrack Stakes on quick ground.

This will be the colt's first run of the season having been a non-runner for last week's Jersey Stakes due to soft ground, with Ryan looking forward to getting his three-year-old off and running.

He said: "He's been ready to run for a bit and this race was there as a backup for Royal Ascot. He's been in good form and we're looking forward to getting his season under way."

Richard Hannon runs Dark Lady for the first time since a wind op with the filly boasting a victory over Cheveley Park Stakes scorer Millisle last season.

Richard Fahey runs the unexposed Istanbul, while Archie Watson is dual-handed with Above and Maystar.

Over at Newmarket there is a chance for juvenile fillies to earn some early black type in the Listed Empress Stakes (2.45).

Perhaps the most impressive among the field is the Ralph Beckett-trained Time Scale, who bolted up by six lengths at Chepstow two weeks ago.

The daughter of Charm Spirit will have Oisin Murphy in the saddle this time, who rode her to a disappointing seventh on debut, but the champion jockey believes she is much more clued up.

Murphy said: "We were very happy with her before her debut but she was a bit babyish. She learned a lot from it and won nicely at Chepstow next time. A half-sister to Bletchley, she goes on all types of ground and is ready to step up."

Roger Varian has been in excellent form over the past fortnight and bids to continue that success with Undertake.

The two-year-old finished an encouraging fourth in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last week, and Varian believes his filly will have things in her favour.

Varian said: "She’s in good form and came out of the Albany very well. The track and trip this time should suit her and I think she'll handle most ground so we're looking forward to running her."

James Tate will be represented by Live Stream, who won at Kempton on debut.

Tate said: "She won pleasingly first time out having not done that much at home, so I'll be hopeful that there's decent scope for improvement," he said.

Others in opposition include Concessions for Richard Hannon and the William Haggas-trained Kadupul, with both stepping up in class after scoring on debut.

Stan Moore will be represented by Jibber Jabber, while Gay Kelleway saddles Olivia Brend for her first run.
