Highly rated Hukum bids to reach lofty heights of past September Stakes winners
The Unibet September Stakes (2.40) may not be the most obvious launchpad to greatness but the all-weather Group 3, the highlight of Kempton's Flat season, has attracted a host of top-class horses in the past – and Hukum's presence means this year is no different.
The race has often served as a stepping stone and in 2013 Prince Bishop scored at Kempton before winning a Meydan Group 1 the following March. He struck again in 2014 before landing the Dubai World Cup.
Jack Hobbs arrived with an even loftier reputation in 2015, having won the Irish Derby, and victory in the September Stakes set up a tilt at the Champion Stakes, in which he finished third. His is far from a hard-luck story, though, as he won the Group 1 Sheema Classic in 2017.
