Just a 2lb rise from the handicapper for a win at Glorious Goodwood places Many A Star as the obvious form horse here.

Paul and Oliver Cole's runner came late to snatch victory in the Stewards' Cup consolation but it was not the biggest surprise as he had recorded an equally impressive Racing Post Rating of 93 earlier in the season at Ascot.

This is arguably a weaker race and he appears to be improving so warrants respect but the ground could be crucial. His best efforts have come on a sound surface and easier ground may just make this fast-finisher a little vulnerable.

The Andrew Balding-trained Fivethousandtoone was favourite and a close second in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes as a two-year-old but struggled last season and in the early part of this campaign, and has dropped all the way down to a rating of 91.

His latest two efforts show he may be coming good again thanks to the application of cheekpieces. At Salisbury two starts ago, he got within a short head of the 110-rated Run To Freedom, which looks good enough to win this. His latest fourth was encouraging too considering the start went wrong and the pace of the race did not suit. He looks the standout on that evidence.

Dusky Lord is hard to judge but has ability. Cheekpieces were switched to blinkers at York last time to no success and this time he goes without anything.

Atalanta's Boy has won this the last two years but has been off since May and has moved stables to Martin Smith. A hat-trick looks tricky but is impossible to rule out.

What they say

Martin Smith, trainer of Atalanta's Boy
He's been with me a couple of months now and we're pleased with him. He's absolutely flying at home and we couldn't be happier. The biggest thing with him is that he can rear up and miss the kick, but as long as that goes all right then he should have a cracking chance.

Alastair Donald, racing manager to King Power Racing, owners of Fivethousandtoone
He ran extremely well in a conditions race at Salisbury last month, which he probably should've won. The last day they went quite slow over seven [furlongs] and we're going back over six now. He's on a mark now where we think he's dangerous. He's got a lot of ability as he showed as a two-year-old but he's always worked extremely well at home and maybe it's starting to happen for him now. The ground should be fine.

Oliver Cole, joint-trainer of Many A Star
He's in really good form. He'd like the ground to be a little quicker but we'll take our chance. He loves it at Goodwood and this seemed the obvious race to go for.
