After a dry and windy night in Sussex the going remains good, good to firm in places for the opening day of Glorious Goodwood but showers are expected.

The Met Office expects a heavy shower to hit the track at around 10am, which could continue until noon, while another heavy shower is expected at 4pm. Racing starts at 1.50 with a competitive 1m2f handicap.

Ed Arkell, clerk of the course at Goodwood, told the track's Twitter page on Tuesday morning: "We've got quite a windy day forecast with scattered, and potentially heavy, showers coming through the day. The ground has dried out a little bit overnight, so we are now good, good to firm in places with a GoingStick reading of 7.8."

There have been problems reported for those travelling to the track on the train, with a tree on the line at Southbourne – between Chichester and Havant – causing delays.

Stradivarius remains strong in the betting in his quest for a Goodwood Cup hat-trick (3.35), while the only real mover in the two Group 2s is Pretty Baby in the Qatar Lennox Stakes (3.00). William Haggas's filly has been clipped from 10-1 (from 12) where she is looking to bounce back from a disappointing effort at Royal Ascot last time.

The biggest mover on the card is Marcus Tregoning's newcomer Impressor, who has been backed into 20-1 (from 50) for the 6f maiden (4.10).
