Heavy overnight rain forces Hexham and Southwell to cancel after inspections

Another wet night has led to more weather woes, with the cards at Hexham and Southwell card cancelled due to waterlogging following inspections this morning.

"We've had in excess of 20 millimetres of rain, double what was forecast, and it's still raining," said clerk of the course Roderick Duncan.

Hexham clerk of the course James Armstrong called an inspection at 9am due to persistent rain at the track, but following a lengthy check was forced to admit defeat, with the course waterlogged again.

That leaves Hereford as the remaining jumps fixture, where conditions will be testing on heavy ground.

All-weather action at Dundalk and Wolverhampton completes today's programme, and there could be Classic clues at Dundalk, where Kevin Prendergast gives 1,000 Guineas entry Alghabrah, a half-sister to Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Awtaad, her second start in a maiden.

Final thought

After Monday's five-day acceptance stage there were 63 horses still engaged, but it would significantly enhance the profile of the Grand National if Monday became the final declaration stage, enabling five days for full-on National build-up.
