Pat Cooney, bet365 In recent years the race has been unprofitable for bookmakers,with four winning favourites and seven winners at single-figure prices since 2011. I’m going to keep it simple and pick Nahaarr. He won like a horse going places at Newbury last time and looks ahead of the handicapper.
Cornelius Lysaght, broadcaster I’m happy to have a go with Watan, who ran with great credit when runner-up to Nahaarr at Newbury, his first race in 54 weeks. I recall thinking Watan had a bright future when winning a Goodwood maiden two years ago this week and, although there have clearly been issues, he looks an attractive proposition now.
Keith Melrose, betting editor Watan could reverse the form with
Nahaarr from Newbury. He was left trailing by that rival on the day but it was his seasonal reappearance, whereas the winner had two recent runs. Watan went through the race easily and shaped very much like he will come on for the run. He also gets a 7lb pull, which on its own brings him within hailing distance and yet he is four times the price.
