Recent form points to one horse in this race and that is Pockley, who is bidding for a straight-track hat-trick as his two wins at Newcastle came either side of a defeat around a bend at Wolverhampton.

Pockley won by just a head at Gosforth Park last time but appeared to score with a little in hand. That was over six furlongs, but his previous win at that track had come at five and he often goes through his races keenly. He might be better suited by a speed test.

There is plenty of speed in the line-up and Twilight Madness looks sure to go off quickly. He made all over this trip at Newcastle last time and had previously run well from a wide draw over six furlongs at Chelmsford. He is drawn one, though, and the far side isn't always the place to be at Southwell.

The final word goes to Double Dealing, who represents the red-hot Stuart Williams stable and bids to build on his promising debut fourth for the yard at Chelmsford two weeks ago. He went off favourite that night, but finished behind the reopposing La Roca Del Fuego. A 5lb pull in the weights might be enough for Double Dealing to reverse the places.

What they say

Stuart Williams, trainer of Double Dealing
It’s his second start for us and we’ve dropped him back to sprinting as he was previously campaigned over seven furlongs and a mile. We were happy with his first run for us at Chelmsford and it'll be interesting to see how he goes.

Charlie Fellowes, trainer of Fai Fai
His rating when he came over from France flattered him a bit, but he’s now down to a more workable mark. We think five furlongs on a straight track will suit, and his recent good run at Chelmsford appears to have taken the gas out of him.

Geoffrey Deacon, trainer of La Roca Del Fuego
He won well at Chelmsford last time, but he's never run at Southwell and he’s previously been most effective around bends. That said, he ran well over five at York one day and we’re hopeful he can handle it.

Simon Hodgson, trainer of Twilight Madness
He won well at Newcastle last time, but this is a different type of track – hopefully his natural speed will see him to good effect. He’ll pop out as he usually does and if anything leads him they will be going pretty fast.

Linda Perratt, trainer of Pockley
He won well over six furlongs at Newcastle last time but has plenty of speed so dropping back to five should suit.

Antony Brittain, trainer of Murbih and Yaahobby
They've been running consistently and we expect them to run well if they get a bit of luck.
