'He goes there with a decent shout' - which trainer is feeling confident?

Charlie Johnston won with his second and third runners in his own name last week and Capital Theory could land him a decent prize by taking this Class 3 feature.

Capital Theory has not looked back since making the most of a great opportunity in maiden company at Chelmsford, winning handicaps here and at Wolverhampton.

Although not bred for middle distances – his winning half-sister is a sprinter, for example – stepping up to 1m4f should be fine on visual evidence, especially at this track.

Base Note is the other standout candidate and anyone who backed him at Wolverhampton last time will feel it was one that got away.

Steady early fractions, and subsequent bunching turning out of the back straight, forced him wide and he went down by a fast-diminishing head. Harry Burns will no doubt be preparing for a similarly slow pace, with Prince Of Harts perhaps the most likely to take them along off a break.

Capital Theory and Base Note put their unbeaten course records on the line, as does the grey Silverscape, who will be trying to challenge late.

Oman and Dirham Emirati return to the Flat having failed to build on fair hurdling debuts. Alan King's Oman probably has less to prove and his strength in the market should be noted.

Blow Your Horn may be one to put in your tracker for the future, perhaps over another couple of furlongs in a 0-75 or 0-80.

What they say

Philip Robinson, racing manager to Mohammed Al Nabouda, owner of Base Note
He’s been running well on the all-weather this winter but the race wasn’t run to suit when he was second at Wolverhampton last time. He’s a progressive type and hopefully there's more to come.

Charlie Fellowes, trainer of Pirate King
He ran well last time, likes the track and goes there with a decent shout.

George Margarson, trainer of Protected Guest
He ran a great race at Wolverhampton last time and has come out of that in good shape. He’s well drawn and likes the track. He’s a bit quirky but if he puts his best foot forward he could get us off the mark for 2023.

Rod Millman, trainer of Prince Of Harts
He had a little setback that has kept him off until now but he’s had a nice break and is working well. It’s a competitive race but hopefully he can put on a good show.

Roger Teal, trainer of Silverscape
He’s been running with credit all season but he can make life difficult for himself as he misses the break sometimes. He’s won around Lingfield before and if he gets away on terms he could run a nice race.
