There were plenty of people, myself included, who thought Politologue had produced a substandard performance to win the Champion Chase last year. Chacun Pour Soi and Altior were last-minute absentees and Defi Du Seuil didn’t run his race, so Politologue had little to beat.
However, what I failed to recognise was the ease with which Politologue won and it was only when assessing the win with Racing Post Ratings that I started to appreciate the performance.
