Emissary shortens to 6-5 for Cocked Hat and Reshoun taken out of Grand Cup
Debutant winner Emissary has been backed into a best-price 6-5 (from 6-4) for the Coral and British EBF-sponsored Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood.
James Doyle's mount, trained by Hugo Palmer, was a ready winner at Wolverhampton in October and could advertise his Derby claims in this Listed contest.
His main rival appears Celestran, who bids to provide John Gosden with a record-equalling sixth success in the Cocked Hat Stakes that closes the card at Goodwood.
Dick Hern and Sir Henry Cecil hold the record for most wins in the 1m3f race that has been landed by Gosden in two of the last three years with Khalidi and Private Secretary.
The four-runner Coral and British EBF-sponsored Cocked Hat Stakes is one of ten races televised on ITV4 this afternoon with the terrestrial channel showing action from Goodwood, Doncaster and Leopardstown.
Encore D’Or (2.00) has been supported into 7-1 (from 10) for the sprint handicap at Doncaster. He boasts course-and-distance winning form and has the benefit of a recent run when an encouraging sixth at Newmarket eight days ago.
There are two Listed races at Leopardstown, where the going has changed to good, good to firm in places (from good), shown on ITV4 and Colin Keane’s mount Nickajack Cave (3.00) is proving popular for the Saval Beg Levmoss Stakes.
The four-year-old, trained by Irish 2,000 Guineas-winning trainer Ger Lyons, was fourth at this level in the Devoy Stakes at Naas in March and could be open to improvement. He has been backed into 10-1 (from 14).
Away from the ITV4 action, the John Quinn-trained Time Voyage (4.50) has been well punted and now vies for favouritism at 11-2 (from 10) for the finale at Doncaster.
Top-level action will be shown on Sky Sports Racing with the Prix Ganay (1.35), featuring last year's French Derby winner Sottsass, and Prix Saint Alary (3.25) taking place at Chantilly.
There are two notable non-runners this afternoon with sprinter Rocket Action (2.35) taken out of the Listed Betway Achilles Stakes at Doncaster and Reshoun (3.40) not running in the Listed Betway Grand Cup Stakes.
