Pretty Polly non-runner Bharani Star bids to make winning handicap debut
The spotlight may be on the return of racing in Ireland at Naas on Monday but there are also three meetings in Britain from Haydock, Chelmsford and Lingfield. Here are three horses to follow.
Magical Max
1.45 Haydock
Magical Max lived up to his name for trainer Mark Walford last season, winning his two starts, including when beating Sweet Joanna at Thirsk.
The three-year-old drops back to the minimum trip for the first time at Haydock and heads the market ahead of the William Haggas-trained Dancin Inthestreet, who is partnered by in-form jockey Cieren Fallon.
Maria Rosa
2.30 Chelmsford
Maria Rose was bred to be top class in the US and cost Godolphin $1.75 million at a Keeneland yearling sale in September 2018.
She made just one start as a juvenile for John Gosden last season when narrowly beaten at Newcastle by the reopposing Fooraat. It could be an exciting duel as they step up to a mile for the first time.
Bharani Star was withdrawn from the Listed Pretty Polly Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday due to unsuitable ground and will instead make her handicap debut at Haydock.
She is owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds and ran in two competitive novice contests last season, finishing fourth behind Queen Deanerys, who was runner-up in the Pretty Polly, at Newmarket last time.
