Outside of Royal Ascot, York's Ebor meeting is arguably the best in the Flat racing calendar in Britain and this year's fixture promises to be bang up to scratch.

It certainly starts in style with the feature on day one being the clash between Churchill, Barney Roy and Ulysses in the Juddmonte International Stakes.

Won by Frankel in 2012, it really is one of the highlights of the year.

That is one of four races from York live on ITV's main channel, while there is also action at Carlisle, Bath, Killarney, Worcester and Kempton.

Going report

York - 1.55 first race
GOING CHANGE: GOOD TO SOFT, SOFT IN PLACES (from good to firm, good in places).

Rail moved out from inside line on back straight and home bend making the following adjustment to official race distances: 7f192yds start plus 28 yards to 8f; 10f56yds start plus 32 yards to 10f88yds; 11f188yds start plus 32 yards to 1m4f; 2m56yds start plus 32 yards to 2m88yds.

The rain has stopped and the clouds are lifting. Total of 15mm of rain fell on Wednesday morning.

William Derby, York's clerk of the course, said: "We have had 15mm of rain. I think the course has taken it very well. It is good to soft up the straight and round the bend and soft in places up the top of the 7f chute and on the back stretch.

"The cloud base is lifting and it is due to remain dry from now on then fragment and give sunny spells later in the afternoon."

Final thought

The Juddmonte International really is one of those races you must not miss and this year's edition is a real belter; is Barney Roy as good as Richard Hannon says? Is Churchill finished or was Royal Ascot a one-off? Or will something else muscle in on the big two?

It'll be some watch finding out.
