Gary Moore praying Casse Tete has chance to solve Champion Chase puzzle

Gary Moore is praying Plumpton survives a morning inspection with eight of the 33 declared runners on Monday’s card hailing from his West Sussex yard.

The fixture, which is subject to an 8am check owing to rain, features the inaugural £50,000 totesport.com Sussex Champion Chase (3.35), a welcome addition to the race programme according to Moore.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Moore. “It’s a self-sufficient track and they put on a £50,000 race on Sunday and a £50,000 on Monday, so fair play to them.”

The trainer is hopeful of a bold show from Casse Tete in the 2m3½f contest after the six-year-old finished eighth in the Ultima Chase at Cheltenham last month.

He said: “He looked a non-stayer at Cheltenham, which I can’t believe, but he looks in good form, loves going left-handed and I thought this was a great opportunity. It’s no penalty kick, but he’s got every chance I hope.”

Neil Mulholland is another trainer full of praise for Plumpton’s prize-money initiative and hopes to run Bishops Court in opposition.

He said: “They’ve done a great job with this race and Bishops Court will be better over the trip – it was too short last time.

"He’ll be going over further shortly but on what is going to be testing ground, if it goes ahead, he should get the trip okay.”

Beau Bay looked a little unlucky to be collared late on at Ascot eight days ago and makes a quick reappearance for Richard Newland.

He said: "He's come out of Ascot very well and this looks a perfect race. He likes it really soft, so let's hope it's on."

Royal Vacation and Dusky Lark complete the field, with Dusky Lark’s trainer Robert Walford saying: “My horse is well and would handle the ground.”

Moore looks sure to be among the winners on the undercard and Triumph Hurdle seventh Sussex Ranger appears in another league to his only rival, Spike's Princess, in the Totesport-backed juvenile hurdle (1.55) that opens the card.

Moore said: “I was massively disappointed with him in the Triumph but he’s just got to turn up and it was too good an opportunity. That just wasn’t him at Cheltenham."

Bagging Turf, Royal Hall, Goldslinger, Mr Muddle, Gorse Island and Yukon Delta complete Moore’s Plumpton squad. “I’d be disappointed if we didn’t have at least two winners,” the trainer added.
